Ruchottes-Chambertin is a place that grants nothing yet gives everything back. One of Gevrey's historic heights, carved into a limestone plateau where rock lies just beneath the surface — a vineyard vibrating with stone, wind and light. Nineteenth-century cadastral maps described it as "cold, nervous soils," perfect for wines defined more by finesse than by force — a signature still instantly recognizable. The Domaine Marchand-Grillot parcel is about thirty-five years old: mature enough to speak with authority, not so old as to lose momentum. The 2023 amplifies this character: a wine of great elegance, fine yet profound in texture, with a persistence that does not fade but slows, like a thought returning. On the palate, it is both gentle and firm: substance, density, and that subtle "gras" counterpointing the mineral tension. And then the hallmark of Ruchottes — a tender, understated spice that appears in the finish like a courteous gesture. The limestone structure, with rock nearly at the surface, forces the roots into labor and adaptation: this compelled dialogue between vine and stone yields the finesse that distinguishes this climat from its illustrious neighbors. It lacks Chambertin's power and Clos de Bèze's sternness; it chooses instead verticality, purity, transparency.
