Argillo-calcareo tipico della Côte de Beaune

"En Journoblot" is one of those vineyards that seem to live in discretion while standing a breath away from glory: barely fifteen meters separate this climat from the historic Grands Crus of Chassagne. A distance that, in Burgundy, feels more poetic than geographic. The soil is clay-limestone, spare and essential; the gentle south-facing slope channels light like a conductor guiding a soloist. A terroir that demands restraint yet yields depth. Nineteenth-century maps described the area surrounding Montrachet as "lands of the elite": small, precious parcels where Chardonnay took on an almost liturgical bearing. "En Journoblot" carries that echo, even while remaining classified as Village — another reminder that in Burgundy, history does not always bow to hierarchy. Work here is respectful, contemporary: sustainable viticulture, zero herbicides, partial cover cropping, HVE certification. The vine grows in balance, and you taste it. Harvest is manual; grapes travel in light 30-kg crates to reach the press intact. Whole clusters are pressed gently; the must rests, clarifies cold, then slips by gravity into barrel within twenty-four hours. From there, nature speaks: spontaneous fermentation, ten months in French oak with 20% new barrels, regular bâtonnage. There is no will to sculpt the wine—only to accompany it. The result is a clear, luminous Chassagne that preserves the mineral tension that made the hillside famous.
